Our topic for September for the Focus On Life: 2014 Weekly Photography Challenge is
'Simplicity'
and for week 36 Sally prompted us with
'A Door'
Well, if you didn't already know, I'm a bit obsessed with doors.
that helps feed this obsession.
So, when we got the prompt for this week I thought,
"Yeah Baby! I'm not gonna have any problems with this week's prompt!"
Wrong.
Other than the grocery store and my house, I haven't gone far this week and didn't manage to capture even one photo of the cool doors I saw down in Mexico last weekend. (really?!?)
So, I leave you this week with one of my favorite door photos of all times.
Italian villa in Sommocolonia, Italy. Photo by Michelle Buettner |
This beautiful home is in a little hilltop village called Sommocolonia,
above the village of Barga in Tuscany, Italy.
Sommocolonia is a magical place.
When I die my ashes could be spread up on the hill, underneath the remains of the magnificent stone towers where the memorial plaque to the Buffalo Soldiers of WWII hangs, and I'd be eternally happy.
This village is 'A Door' to another world.
Simplicity rings through out this beautiful hilltop village, behind each door, and welcomes you with open arms.
I'm excited to see what simplistic doors the other participants were able to capture this week.
Until Next Time,
Peace, Love and A Door to a Simple, Peaceful Place!
Cheers,
~Shel~

Well you did better than me - I couldn't come up with a door. And I can see why you love the door you chose. It does look magical. Have fun in Tucson - I was unable to go this year.
ReplyDeleteThank you Paula! I did have fun down in Tucson - picked up some more pearls (imagine that, right?!) and got to hang out w/my girlfriend and her family, and I even saw one of my friends I used to work with over 20 some years ago - she's work for the G&LW shows for many years and I always look forward to catching up w/her!
DeleteI went running round the deck today taking door pictures... Your are much more interesting.. I always worry that the house owner will take offense if I start focusing on their doors!
ReplyDeleteThank you! And I know what you mean about photographing some doors - you wonder if the owners or occupants are going to open it up and give you this 'what the heck?" look, right?!!
DeleteA lovely set of doors made even more lovely with the stones facade and the flowers. I love to take photos of doors too. it really is an addiction.
ReplyDeleteOh, it really is an addiction Alice, you are correct! My family started to think they should send me to "Door Porn Anonymous"!!
DeleteI remember seeing this before - just love it!! Barga was on a TV programme the other night - an actress' grandparents are from here - her grandpa left aged 16 to make ice-cream in Glasgow...
ReplyDeleteHow cool Claire! Yes, I love these photos of this house and it's doors. Italy was so beautiful and Sommocolonia was just like all those travel pics you see - amazing!!
DeleteThat's an awesome door picture!! And I love that you are obsessed with doors - they can really be so cool!!! I'm sure you will have a blast looking through this week's participants!
ReplyDeleteThanks Amy and yes, I am having a blast looking at everyone's doors, they're each so different and interesting!
DeleteI also went to my archives this week. Your door photo is stunning. Love all the potted plants that frame the doors.
ReplyDeleteThank you Mary. I did love the way this lady always tended to her plants each day while were were there. And she would pause, wave at us and smile, and go back to tending her plants and flowers. I imagine walking into this home and having her and her husband just shower each person with hugs!!
DeleteYour doors are so richly detailed! I had trouble finding "interesting" doors this week, until I had posted my photo, and then they were all over the place. Oh well, love your door from far away, though!
ReplyDeleteThanks Beti. For me, it always seems that when I don't have my camera or my phone handy that I see what I think is a fabulous door. That is when I have to just take a mental picture and tell myself to really enjoy it!!
DeleteI am with everyone else...I was stumped for getting a door....MOST of the beautiful doors I have seen have been online....but your is beautiful....I think I could so live in Italy! Great post!
